Dena Johnson, MBA, SBDC Regional Director
Dena Johnson is instrumental in helping entrepreneurs, and existing (for profit) business owners with 500 employees or less, plan, expand and thrive. Her customized consulting is designed to meet the specific needs of companies at all stages. She holds a Master’s in Business Administration and a Bachelors in Business Management, is an accredited small business consultant (AASBC), and a certified NxLevel trainer. She is also co-author of the TriStart Matrix, recipient of the 2015 40 under 40 award, was named Yellowstone Valley’s Enterprising Woman in April of 2015, and was named America's SBDC State Star in 2016. Dena is also certified in Business Incubation Management (2017).
Dena's wealth of knowledge comes from a robust background in lending, business ownership, and management of a national chain. She draws upon the expertise of advisors in the SBDC network to provide the best advice for her clients. While her specialty is finance and capital infusion, her breadth and depth of business management consulting is second to none. In her tenure, she has consulted 836 clients and secured $11.9 million in financing. Johnson’s impact extends beyond numbers, however, as she has developed impressive business strategies to increase profitability, maximize operational efficiency, optimize resources, implement critical management practices, and overcome barriers to success.
Lorene Hintz, SBDC Business Advisor
Lorene Hintz is a passionate advocate and champion for small business and economic development. Her position as the SBDC Business Advisor at Big Sky EDA and past experience as the SBDC Regional Director at Great Northern Development provide her with twelve years of counseling, training, and management experience. An Accredited Business Consultant, Lorene strives to recognize needs, promote opportunities, and inspire growth in start-up and existing businesses. Prior to working as a business consultant, Lorene owned and managed a women’s retail business for 16 years. Her practical experience contributes to her insight of the importance of financial planning for business success.
Lorene's expertise includes: QuickBooks, knowledge of the retail industry, CBA, Profit Mastery, Fast Track training, and Core Four certified.
Kathy Lund, SBDC/PTAC Project Support Specialist
Kathy supports the Small Business Development Center, providing clients with customer service, intake requests, scheduling appointments and general startup questions. SHe is the first point of contact for clients and provides full administrative assistance to the Director.
Kathy joined Big Sky Economic Development in 1999. Over the years she has worked with the SBDC program, PTAC, and the Business Expansion and Retention program. She received her certification as a Certified Procurement Professional in February 2015. She now supports PTAC and SBDC programs--what she likes best! Born in Wolf Point, Kathy is a fourth-generation Montanan. She has three children, five grandchildren and two “catkids.” Kathy and her husband Brandon enjoy taking road trips in their spare time. An enthusiastic photographer, Kathy usually totes a camera on any outing.
